Warm Welcome for the City Slickers

Just a quick word to say a big THANK YOU to all the mum's and dad's who have openly welcomed us to Albany and GSG. Our move from Fremantle to this beautiful part of WA has been a very pleasant transition for all of us. Alicia has settled so easily into her new class and is making many new friends.

Being a Mum, not once have I have felt like 'the new kid on the block'. I've been involved in coffee-catchups, tennis (well, more laughs than tennis!!!) and general conversation at school. Some of you may be aware that I've just been in Perth for the past two weeks as our two & a half year old, Megan has just had a tonscilectomy. She is doing really well although having the fmaily split up for 2 wks took its toll. We're all good now and I'm so glad to be home, as is Megan, Alicia and Vern. These past 3 months have been very busy ones however I wish to sincerely thank everyone for making our family feel so welcome to the GSG community.

Sandy - if I can help with the get together, please let me know.

Regards, Sonia

Great Night Out!!!

I just wanted to say a big thank you to Yuli for organising our night out on Friday. The movie was excellent (Slumdog Millionaire), though it was a bit confronting at the beginning and I wasn't sure if I was going to feel like eating dinner. But, I managed, and we had a beautiful dinner at Lime 303. We all got to know some new things about each other and there were plenty of laughs. Definitely worth doing again. So, thank you Yuli!!!

New blog name and honorary members

Hi everyone

I have had a bit of feedback suggesting we should rename our blog so it is not affiliated with the school incase someone posts lewd photos or comments that the school could be offended about...oh we should lead such exciting lives! No, seriously I did think of that after I started the whole thing but typical me just leapt into it. Now i just have to figure out how to change it all!!!

I am now open to any suggestions of what we should rename it...desperate housewives (taken),running out of ideas here! It has to be something simple cos we need to type it into the url...and not to common so that it is available.
Now I did mention that the blog would only be able to be viewed by us and at the moment if you type in our url any one can view it. I did a google search for gsg and gave up on page 11, i think we probably crack a mention somewhere in cyber-land but most people wouldn't be that keen. i think they would be side tracked by the "goose specialist group' or the 'Grampian Speleological Group' (what is that?) but you never know! So i intend to close it so only authors (that's you guys who contribute) can view it. I'll set a closing date of end of term 1 unless anyone has any other suggestions. People who haven't signed in yet can sign in anytime following the original email i sent or i can send another invite

I have also invited Reiko as an honorary member who can post/comment since she and Moana were great additions to our class last year.

Let me know your comments, a box of choccys for the new blog name

ps has anyone noticed we are in a time warp on our posting times? i dont even know what 5am looks like anymore let alone be coherent enough to blog on

Hey there you tech savvy bunch of groovers! Remeber me? I'm the official MMIA (Mother Missing In Action) this year. Sandy, you're a whiz, great idea to catch up on what is happening out there in year three world. I must say this is my first blog contribution, I usually lurk around but have never dipped my toes into the scary online world of blogging.

On a very serious matter, I will bring the vanilla vodka to the easter get together and maybe we can find a use for it?

I did ask Lillian if perhaps she would like it if i came dressed as the Wilson Fairy to the walkathon, strangely, she wasn't having any of it. So perhaps I will help to dismantle the stalls instead...

I will see some of you at Lillian's party, hope those of you who are going out on Friday have a swell evening and i hope to see you all at Rosie's.

Policy on what to post???

I forgot to ask one more question as to clarify the policy as what to post? Is this BLOG only restricted for activities involving the children of Year 3 only or can Year 3 parents only gathering allowed to be posted too?
I just want to be clear so I don't make mistake posting adult social gathering in children's only BLOG.
Thank you Sandy...

Easter get together update

Hello everyone

I've been speaking with Rosie and she has advised that it will be $10 per family....which i think is a bit of a bargain myself! That will provide easter eggs for the kids as well as sausages and buns for everyone, and kids drinks. What a good deal!

You can send the money in an envelope to school with Johhnys name on it ...plus your childs name. Or give the money directly to Rosie. Whatever suits!

Check out the list on the previous post to see what everyone is bringing for the adults to munch on.

It is BYO alcohol, although we have had a few offers for wine and champagne from Di and Fiona

Should be a great day!

Walkathon tally

Our tally today is $1201!!! I think that is really awesome considering we are only a small part of the school yet as of last friday we made up about 15% of the whole total. Go year 3!
Thanks to everyone who brought in their cards today, please send in cards again on Monday 30th for another tally. It doesnt matter if you have finished or not, send them in whatever the amount ( we are still hassling the 'rellys).
Tell your kids they are doing a great job...I'm the only one who knows who has collected what and would prefer to keep it that way. It doesnt need to be a competition between our kids, every bit counts towards new playground equipment.
Hi all,
We will be at the Easter picnic at Rosie's.  I'll bring sushi rolls.

Is it ok for siblings to come if we pay for them too?  If so, Ben will be coming with Gaby.

To post or comment???

Its great to see we have a few bloggers! Not to be too much of a control freak or anything, but so we can keep our blog easy to read here are a few suggestions if you want to add something. I'm still learning as we go so sorry I didn't think of this sooner! (Don't be alarmed when you log on again and it looks different...this is definitely a big learning curve for me!)
  • Post: this can be for new ideas or photos or any new tips and techniques. It will be archived under the title heading on the side. When the blog becomes big it will be easier to navigate via the side bar.
    eg PostTitle: Mathletics
    blah, blah, blah etc
  • Comment: after each post there is a comment section. If you click on this you can comment on that topic and all the comments relevant to that topic will be kept there.
eg Mathletics post...hit comment and write to your hearts content!

As far as I know you can edit or delete your own posts and comments but not anyone elses.

If you want to add a picture there is an icon on the header bar on the compose tag. You can play around with the other bits there too...fonts,links,video etc

Your name is automatically added to the post or comment so unless you have an alias when you signed in you dont have to include it in the text.

Wow Sandy this is a great idea.
I am the same - very +++ technologically challenged, but keen to learn.
I am up for the girls nite out & we would love to come to the Easter party at Rosie's - I'll bring dips + chips.
Another suggestion is a bbq/get together after the kids finish their Naplan tests, they will need it by the sounds of it - maybe Fri 15th May after school @ Eyre Park (weather permitting).
What do others think?
Another date for your diaries is Thurs 28th may - I plan to host a Biggest Morning Tea at the farm as a Cancer council fundraiser.
See you at school, Greta x
I can't work out why my font changed size in my last post...obviously more work required for me to become expert blogger. Marcelle

Great job Sandy

Great idea to do a blog Sandy.

I am a blog virgin but am very keen not to become a technological luddite who is an embarrassment to my children.

We're still waiting to get confirmation about plans for Easter with the in-laws. Hopefully we'll be able to come to the Easter Egg hunt...will confirm asap & confirm contribution.

Welcome to the Yr 3 blog

Not sure about anyone else in the class but I'm new to blogging and thought this could be a really cool way to learn! We can all be guinea pigs together! Our kids will no doubt be bloggers at some stage so we may as well learn about it! They might even be impressed?

The reason I thought a blog would be better than email is that everyone can see what is going on rather than just one person. And my email inbox is close to self combusting due to its size! I mean to clean it up regularly but its a bit like cleaning my house...yeah, later!

Any thoughts of how we could use it? Some ideas I had were

  • Coordinating social events

  • Posting photos or videos of our gorgeous kids at special events...assembly items, sports events for working parents to view

  • Keeping in touch with other mums/dads if you dont get up to the school much

  • A forum for sounding out new ideas or venting our spleens about school issues (nothing personal of course)

  • Posting great information sites...parenting, shopping(!!) or anything else

It all sounds a bit like show and tell!

I've set it up so anyone can add and edit their own post on the site and only people who are on our class list can access the blog. Don't want to attract any freaks out there!

I'm still navigating my way around this site and can post any tips and help that I find useful. Feel free to do the same.

Easter get together

Hi everyone

thought i'd better update you on whats happening for our class get together on Saturday 4th April, 3pm onwards.

Rosie has offered to buy the easter eggs and sausages, buns and drinks for the kids. This keeps all the eggs looking the same so there are no disappointments! The cost should work out to be around $5.00 each. You can send the money in an envelope ( with your childs name on it)
Can you let me know via the blog who is coming so we dont miss out on siblings. Thanks!

Now for the important part....the adults!
when I first emailed everyone I had the following offers for food (I've put the childs name next to the new people just so you know who they belong to)

Fiona - Champagne ( I like your style!)
Nicole - Rice salad
Jillie (Jacksons mum) - Desert
Julia - whatever
Rowena -Jelly cups for the kids and a giant easter bunny cake (yum)
Michelle - whatever
Karen (Kiaras mum) - Cold salad of some sort
Sharon - Jelly bean and smarty biscuits for the kids
Tracy - Whatever
Lisa - Nibblies
Wendy - whatever
Di - Wine ( good on you Di)
Yuli -Exotic wing nibblies
Jamie -whatever
Sandy-cheese/dip platter
Narelle - whatever
Dee ( Jack M's mum) - whatever
Greta - whatever

Update as you feel...sorry if i have missed you out or if you have told me something different, add your bit to the blog! If you are a "whatever" maybe you can add something too now you know what other people are bringing

Look forward to seeing your posts!

Sandy
