Kingfisher Fair

Hi All
No doubt you have read the newsletter and each class is going to be involved with a stall. We have been allocated a lucky dip stall. Ultimately we would like to have a range of prices and ages with things that arent too tacky! Big ask I know.
I have done some investigation and come up with the following sites that provide lucky dips .
Have a look and leave comments. I've sorted them into prices ( we have to factor in postage)

50c with sell price$1. Preference to slime and stickers etc and probably best to order seperately so we have control over what we get.
http://www.mrshowbags.com.au/pages/default.cfm?page_id=14399
http://www.luckydips.com.au/category1_2.htm

For older boys e-bay has some glider planes in bulk lots that would get here for about $1.15. Sell for $2 ( I have to check out local stores, maybe they have them there for cheaper)
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/BULK-LOT-20-RUBBER-BAND-GLIDER-PLANES-NEW-WHOLESALE_W0QQitemZ260453987056QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Toys_Hobbies_Wholesale_Toys_Hobbies?hash=item3ca44472f0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C39%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50
I thought we could try and find some glow in the dark thingys and lip glosses, stickers & stationary, hair things for the older girls. Still investigating.....

These arent actually show bags but they are pretty groovy! I like the idea of these bags to put all our fair stuff in or just to put your groceries in etc. Look much cooler than coles or woolies ones!
What do you think? Would people be willing to buy one for $5...thats $1.50 profit per bag and at least it is useful and reusable

I've spoken with Verity and the kids are going to decorate soaps to sell. Hopefully everyone can donate a packet (I'll let you know brand & where to buy soon). Natasha did the ones above in the holidays.

Yuli suggested also doing a biscuit bake up which is a great idea. More on that soon

If anyone else has any suggestions for our stall or ideas for lucky dip please put them on the blog. Thanks!

Hi Everyone
Aris is in Iceland and having fun there. Believe it or not, it is summer! 24 hour daylight but obviously by looking at this photo you can see that sunshine and warmth are not guaranteed.

Thanks Greta for that lovely morning tea - your farm is idyllic and Jeannie's lemon tart was divine. It's nice to take time out to catch up.

Cheers
Di

Beautiful Albany

I am a bit of an Albany convert...it really has glorious beaches and amazing coast that is secluded. We recently went to Cape Riche and were blown away by how lovely it was. Plan to get back there soon. Its about an hour and a bit from our place, 1st road just before the Welstead shop turnoff, 18km to the beach. Good for a day trip, lots of friendly kangaroos too.

Last October we went to the next bay along, Boat Harbour. Again glorious and well set up for camping or a day trip. Totally mesmerised by a mother whale and calf literally 200m offshore. Watched them for hours!

Morning Tea @ Julia's House

Hello everyone
I have finally got myself organised (sort of) and would love to invite everyone around for morning tea on Monday, 8th June after school drop-off. It gets really hard trying ot find a date and/or time that suits everyone but I hope you can make it. No need to bring anything, except yourselves. Of course, little ones are welcome. Oh, my address is 29 McLeod Street Mira Mar. Look forward to catching up with you soon!!!!

Canteen roster for Year 3

This year the canteen has been staffed with a few virtuous volunteering stalwarts like Reiko and others who generously go in every week. It was suggested that each of the years take a turn to make up the gaps (so we can get it over and done with!) which seems like a fair suggestion

Its our turn to help out with the canteen in June so if anyone can help out that would be really fantastic. Just put a reply on the post with your date of preference . Names are needed asap so they can put it in the Anchor

June 22 (Monday) Wendy (is this ok?)
June 23 (Tuesday) Sandy
June 25 (Thursday)
June 30 (Tuesday)
July 2 (Thursday)

The canteen is located behind the uniform shop and opposite the boarding house.
Start time is 8.50am and finish around 1.00pm
Val Kirby is the GSG Staff member managing the canteen and she will explain everything.

They used to give a free lunch for the children of the helper but i'll have to check that out.

See you at Gretas Morning tea next week!

Nits glorious nits!!! What a lovely subject

Well I had a great Good Friday (not!) picking nits!.....hmmm so much for lazing on the couch! Yes its time to check your kids hair again 'cos its going around. For those who have escaped the nits so far... I am amazed firstly and secondly some advice! Head scratching is not a sign, you need to have a close inspection ( I pity those with blonde headed children) to see if there are any eggs or nits. I have never found a mature louse but there are a few pictures on the internet if you are interested! We bought a nit comb a few years ago and find this pretty effective. After shampooing hair you leave conditioner on for a few minutes and then comb the hair thoroughly in sections, wiping the residue on a tissue which goes in a plastic bag. I looked on the internet for some home remedies and tea tree oil(love this stuff) is very effective in killing eggs and lice. I added a few drops into shampoo and also conditioner just to make sure they were really dead!

Luckily all the evidence now suggests that you don't have to do a complete bed & linen/towel clean, only the affected persons pillowcase needs to be soaked in hot (above 60 deg) water. yay!

Its a real pain, its embarrassing for our kids and we all need to check regularly (every 10 days or so as the eggs hatch then). It is one of those things that just won't go away unfortunately. I think if we all are a bit more bold in telling everyone then it might just help!(sorry Tash!!!)

Anyone else got any good advice?

post script 27/4... i delayed posting this cos i was in such a bad mood when i wrote it! we have since used a chemical oil KP24 which seems pretty effective (leave in overnight) just to be sure that we were nit free before we went to Perth. Follow up 10 days later to catch any new eggs hatching.
I have been told that rubbing hair gel in before you plait hair is a good way to keep nits away as they cant grasp the hair. Any other suggestions?

Thanks Rosie and Scott for a great Easter party.  Fantastic venue and relaxed hospitality.

Great Job Sandy...

Wow Sandy this is great. Just got my act together and signed in because I suddenly realized the Year 3 get-together is tomorrow and I should probably check what I am supposed to contribute. I'm impressed, this is a fun way to keep up with everything that's going on. I love the photos too.

Warm Welcome for the City Slickers

Just a quick word to say a big THANK YOU to all the mum's and dad's who have openly welcomed us to Albany and GSG. Our move from Fremantle to this beautiful part of WA has been a very pleasant transition for all of us. Alicia has settled so easily into her new class and is making many new friends.

Being a Mum, not once have I have felt like 'the new kid on the block'. I've been involved in coffee-catchups, tennis (well, more laughs than tennis!!!) and general conversation at school. Some of you may be aware that I've just been in Perth for the past two weeks as our two & a half year old, Megan has just had a tonscilectomy. She is doing really well although having the fmaily split up for 2 wks took its toll. We're all good now and I'm so glad to be home, as is Megan, Alicia and Vern. These past 3 months have been very busy ones however I wish to sincerely thank everyone for making our family feel so welcome to the GSG community.

Sandy - if I can help with the get together, please let me know.

Regards, Sonia

Great Night Out!!!

I just wanted to say a big thank you to Yuli for organising our night out on Friday. The movie was excellent (Slumdog Millionaire), though it was a bit confronting at the beginning and I wasn't sure if I was going to feel like eating dinner. But, I managed, and we had a beautiful dinner at Lime 303. We all got to know some new things about each other and there were plenty of laughs. Definitely worth doing again. So, thank you Yuli!!!

New blog name and honorary members

Hi everyone

I have had a bit of feedback suggesting we should rename our blog so it is not affiliated with the school incase someone posts lewd photos or comments that the school could be offended about...oh we should lead such exciting lives! No, seriously I did think of that after I started the whole thing but typical me just leapt into it. Now i just have to figure out how to change it all!!!

I am now open to any suggestions of what we should rename it...desperate housewives (taken),running out of ideas here! It has to be something simple cos we need to type it into the url...and not to common so that it is available.
Now I did mention that the blog would only be able to be viewed by us and at the moment if you type in our url any one can view it. I did a google search for gsg and gave up on page 11, i think we probably crack a mention somewhere in cyber-land but most people wouldn't be that keen. i think they would be side tracked by the "goose specialist group' or the 'Grampian Speleological Group' (what is that?) but you never know! So i intend to close it so only authors (that's you guys who contribute) can view it. I'll set a closing date of end of term 1 unless anyone has any other suggestions. People who haven't signed in yet can sign in anytime following the original email i sent or i can send another invite

I have also invited Reiko as an honorary member who can post/comment since she and Moana were great additions to our class last year.

Let me know your comments, a box of choccys for the new blog name

ps has anyone noticed we are in a time warp on our posting times? i dont even know what 5am looks like anymore let alone be coherent enough to blog on

Hey there you tech savvy bunch of groovers! Remeber me? I'm the official MMIA (Mother Missing In Action) this year. Sandy, you're a whiz, great idea to catch up on what is happening out there in year three world. I must say this is my first blog contribution, I usually lurk around but have never dipped my toes into the scary online world of blogging.

On a very serious matter, I will bring the vanilla vodka to the easter get together and maybe we can find a use for it?

I did ask Lillian if perhaps she would like it if i came dressed as the Wilson Fairy to the walkathon, strangely, she wasn't having any of it. So perhaps I will help to dismantle the stalls instead...

I will see some of you at Lillian's party, hope those of you who are going out on Friday have a swell evening and i hope to see you all at Rosie's.

Policy on what to post???

I forgot to ask one more question as to clarify the policy as what to post? Is this BLOG only restricted for activities involving the children of Year 3 only or can Year 3 parents only gathering allowed to be posted too?
I just want to be clear so I don't make mistake posting adult social gathering in children's only BLOG.
Thank you Sandy...

Easter get together update

Hello everyone

I've been speaking with Rosie and she has advised that it will be $10 per family....which i think is a bit of a bargain myself! That will provide easter eggs for the kids as well as sausages and buns for everyone, and kids drinks. What a good deal!

You can send the money in an envelope to school with Johhnys name on it ...plus your childs name. Or give the money directly to Rosie. Whatever suits!

Check out the list on the previous post to see what everyone is bringing for the adults to munch on.

It is BYO alcohol, although we have had a few offers for wine and champagne from Di and Fiona

Should be a great day!

Walkathon tally

Our tally today is $1201!!! I think that is really awesome considering we are only a small part of the school yet as of last friday we made up about 15% of the whole total. Go year 3!
Thanks to everyone who brought in their cards today, please send in cards again on Monday 30th for another tally. It doesnt matter if you have finished or not, send them in whatever the amount ( we are still hassling the 'rellys).
Tell your kids they are doing a great job...I'm the only one who knows who has collected what and would prefer to keep it that way. It doesnt need to be a competition between our kids, every bit counts towards new playground equipment.
Hi all,
We will be at the Easter picnic at Rosie's.  I'll bring sushi rolls.

Is it ok for siblings to come if we pay for them too?  If so, Ben will be coming with Gaby.
